Dawsons Fuels (W Dawson & Son Limited) is an independent, family-run fuel merchant based in Sedbergh, Cumbria. Founded by William Dawson in 1895, we’ve remained family-owned through five generations — supplying quality solid fuels with straightforward advice and dependable service.

Today, brothers Martyn and Peter Dawson lead the company with the same dedication, pride and personal service that the business was built on.

We still operate from the same goods yard where the legacy began. Our depot includes original buildings from its time as the LMS Railway Station for Sedbergh (a casualty of the Beeching cuts in the 1960s) — and if you look closely, you can still spot a small section of rail track visible in the ground.

Since launching our ecommerce store in 2013, we’ve been able to serve customers locally and across the UK, while maintaining the same family standards we’ve always been known for.

We believe in doing things right — no frills, no shortcuts. We focus on stocking quality fuels and we check orders before they leave our depot. There can be vast differences in fuel quality, and we don’t aim to win on “cheapest at any cost”. We aim to deliver dependable warmth and value you can rely on.

We’re also large enough to use our buying power to keep pricing competitive, while staying true to the personal service you expect from a family business.

Local service: many nearby deliveries around Sedbergh and the surrounding area are handled by our own team and sign-written vehicles, with the same care our predecessors were known for.

UK-wide delivery: since launching our ecommerce store in 2013, we’ve been able to partner with a large pallet distribution network to deliver palletised orders across the UK (and, on occasion, further afield).
