What is the Best Coal for Me?

July 11, 2019

Not all coal is the same. There are actually different types of coal and each one has different benefits and characteristics. Also, some types of coal are far better than others and can provide homes and businesses with a far more reliable fuel solution.

We are experts in the fuel industry and have years of knowledge on the different types of coal and which one is best for different uses. Whether you need coal for your home to fuel your open fire or you need it for business purposes, we can help you pick the best coal for the job with our comprehensive guide on coal products

Whilst there is no overall “best coal”, there are coals that are better for certain jobs than others. As leaders in the fuel industry, it's our job to provide you with the information you need to make informed choices on the best coal for your desired uses to make sure you are investing wisely.

Colombian coal

Colombian coal is one of our most sold products at Dawson Fuels. In fact, we have been selling Colombian fuel for over 20 years now! This type of coal is of consistently high quality, however, this can always depend on the type of Colombian mine the batch came from.

With each mine being different, you can expect different types of quality of Colombian coal. No two batches are the same and it is completely dependent on certain conditions. You can either choose from Colombian coal doubles or trebles. The difference being that the trebles are larger, generally between 50 and 90mm in size. The Columbian coal doubles average at around 20-50mm in size

Both types and sizes of this type of coal can give off a higher heat output whilst burning with an attractive, long flame. However, the Colombian coal trebles can provide you with a much longer burning time than the doubles. This is something to keep in mind if burn time is particularly important to you.

Colombian coal is perfect for use in a home. Due to it being quick and easy to light, it’s the perfect option for a working professional who wants to add some warmth and comfort to their home after a long and hard day at work without any hassle during the lighting process.

British coal

British coal is classed as economy house coal and is a versatile option for houses and businesses alike. British coal still provides a home with quality fuel for their stoves and fires; however, the heat output is compromised by the higher production of ash. Due to this, you can expect [that] British coal to be cheaper in price in comparison to its Colombian counterpart.

British coal can provide an adequate amount of heat and light output, perfect for a fire or stove in a smaller setting. If you're just looking for some basic coal for your small open fire in your sitting room, British coal can be the perfect choice for you.

Provided in doubles size, our range of British coal is effortless to light for a quick and effective fuel solution. The one drawback to this, however, is that they burn faster so you may find yourself having to replenish your fuel more often. This is, however, a great solution for those who do not wish to have a fire burning for very long, say, if it's the end of a long day and you don't need it to last for hours.

If you're looking for an affordable fuel solution, British coal is the perfect choice for you.
