What Is the Hottest Burning Coal?

It’s well known within the fuel industry that, despite its similar aesthetic qualities, different grades and types of coal can produce hugely different results. But what is the hottest burning coal? That’s one of the most popular questions frequently asked by our customers.

Coal is turned into coal through a highly sophisticated scientific process known as “coalification”. During this 300 million year process, the molecular and biological structures found within plant cells transform gradually into the chemical fragments and structures which comprises coal. As a result of this complex activity, result can vary from the seemingly smallest difference. Therefore, there are a lot of differences in coal activity found in individual products due to this intricate process of vegetation into coal.

In order to get the most out of your coal burning, It is important to equip yourself with the necessary information regarding the difference between house coal doubles, house coal trebles and other alternatives. When it comes to premium house coal, there are a number of choices that need to be made in order to produce the best result possible. Keep reading to discover what is the hottest burning coal and the other pros and cons of coal alternatives.

Why Does Different Coal Burn Differently?

Different coal can produce hugely different results when it comes to a variety of different attributes. The biggest differences in how house coal will operate are seen in the aesthetics of the manner that it burns and also the intensity and duration of time in which it gives off heat.

There are multiple factors that will influence the manner in which coal reacts after it is burned. Where the coal is produced will play a huge part in this. Nowadays, there are many different countries who have become associated with producing excellent house coal.

However, at one point, Britain was the major provider within the coal industry. Things began to change after post-industrialisation in the 20th century. The resultant decline in the British mining industry has seen the origin of most of our house coals come from abroad.

The second major factor which influences how coal burns differently is its size. The size of premium house coal will not affect its quality but it will alter various other factors including its heat output. The following are all influenced by both the coal’s origin and its size:

  • The amount of heat output produced whilst burning

  • Whether ash is produced and how much of this by-product is left over

  • Duration of time the coal burns for

  • The amount and type of smoke which is produced (e.g. how much carbon dioxide is emitted into the environment)

  • The aesthetic lighting effects of the flames (e.g. how high they rise, whether they are “dancing”, etc.)

Which Country Produces the Hottest Burning Coal?

This is an overly simple question with a slightly complicated answer. Different coal manufacturers can also affect the heat output by the coat itself. As will the size of the coal, which we will discuss in the next section.

However, the coal experts at Dawson’s Fuel truly believe that the best and hottest premium house coal is produced in Colombia. “Quality” is in reference to various other factors other than heat. Alongside delivering a consistently high heat output, this product will also guarantee you a quality looking flame and very low levels of ash produced as well.

Which Size Goal Gives Off the Most Heat?

Whilst the size of the coal will not have any bearing on its quality, it can drastically affect how it burns. The heat output is one of the biggest things which will be affected here. As we have established, the fuel experts at Dawson Fuels believe that Colombian House Coal gives off a higher heat output than any competitors.

Dawson Fuels sell premium house coal in two main sizes, which have varied pros and cons:

Colombian Doubles:

  • Approximately 20-55mm in size, meaning that they are generally easier to light and therefore easier to get the fire started

  • They generally burn faster than trebles, meaning that you will need to refuel your fire more frequently

  • Produce a 5-star quality heat output

  • Are not smokeless

  • Are not HETA approved

  • Have very low ash levels (2%)

Colombian Trebles:

  • Approximately 50-90mm in size, meaning that they usually take longer to get the fire started in the first place

  • Burn for longer than singles due to the larger size

  • Once established they will also give off a 5-star quality high heat output and burn with an alluring, distinct, long flame

  • Do not need to be refuelled as often as doubles

  • Are not smokeless

  • Are not HETA approved

  • Have very low ash levels (2%)

But what size of Colombian House Coal is the hottest? Well, to conclude:

Colombian Treblesgive off the highest heat output.

Trebles also give a longer burn time than doubles, which is generally true for all coal types, not just Colombian. However, certain customers will opt for the Colombian Doubles as they take far less time to get the fire started in the first place.

Both have their perks, however, if it’s just heat output you’re after, Colombian Trebles are your answer for premium coal solution. You can browse many other of the best smokeless coal solutions if you wish to reduce your environmental impact.
